Over the past 30 years, we have established strong partnerships with organizations that support innovators, such as NRC-IRAP (National Research Council of Canada Industrial Research Assistance Program), we collaborate with various ecosystem friends, and have cultivated a network of Alumni clients who now serve as valuable mentors within our network. In Memory of Joe Lukacs
We are honoured to remember our late President and CEO, Joe Lukacs, whose remarkable journey began in a humble Hungarian mud house and led him to become a pioneer in environmental technology. Overcoming immense adversity, from WWII hardships to political challenges under Stalin, Joe's resilience fuelled his academic and professional pursuits. After immigrating to Canada, he excelled at the University of Alberta and founded Western Research and Development, earning the nickname "sulphur doctor" for his innovations in reducing pollution in Alberta's sour gas plants.
Joe's visionary leadership continued with the founding of CETAC-WEST, significantly advancing the commercialization of environmental technologies for SMEs. His legacy is marked by prestigious accolades such as the Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee Medal and the Alberta Order of Excellence. Beyond his professional achievements, Joe cherished moments on his ranch and with his family. He passed away in 2024 at the age of 90, leaving behind a legacy of innovation, resilience, and dedication.
